MDWASD Pump Station Improvement Program

Miami, Florida

In response to the first and second consent decree settlement agreements between the USEPA and Miami-Dade County, the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department (MDWASD) established a program to study, plan, design, and construct remedial action plans to eliminate pumping station overflows; this was called the Pump Station Improvement Program (PSIP).

CES played a role in this program, serving as the planning, design, and engineering firm tasked with the following objectives:

  • Design and plan over 400 pump stations and 100 miles of force mains, including 12- to 30-inch diameter pipelines
  • Review Basis Design Reports, review of proposed pumping stations and force mains improvements
  • Perform design calculations for pumping stations and gravity sewer lines
  • Perform all permitting activities with all county and local municipalities in obtaining dry-run permits
  • Coordinate with Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department and other agencies
  • Assist the Prime PM firm in meeting all EPA mandated milestones and deadlines
  • Coordinate with in-house and Miami-Dade Water & Sewer personnel
